IKEA EgyptIKEA Egypt finally opened in Cairo Festival City on the 26th November 2013. It’s an impressively large flagship store with everything you would expect from an IKEA, including the iconic warehouse on the ground floor. IKEA Egypt also has a restaurant/café, a large crèche for children, prayer rooms, and a market hall where one can find all sorts of lovely accessories for the home and a large showroom for all sections of the home.

It’s lovely to see the iconic IKEA map that shows you a route of the showroom. The iconic pencils, measuring tapes  and cards to write on are also available around the store. There are also arrows on the floor to show you where to walk to next.

The showroom has a selection of high quality furniture that is both stylish and modern. The IKEA Egypt showroom comes complete with dining furniture, living room storage, workspaces, wardrobes and storage, bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, and children’s rooms.

There’s also a selection of bookcases and bookshelves, mirrors, and all sorts of accessories for the home which can be found in the market hall.

The restaurant/cafe is quite large. It’s self-service, so one has to queue up to select and buy one’s food. I loved the invention of the tray trolley where you can place more than one tray. One also has to clear up after themselves using the tray stations at the rear of the restaurant/cafe. From what I saw while visiting, not every Egyptian likes cleaning up after themselves, or being told to clean up after themselves, so I feel for the staff who have this challenging task!

There’s a selection of proteins to choose from, including roasted chicken, Swedish meatballs, grilled salmon and a vegetarian dish of the day. There’s also a choice of sides to choose from, including rice, mashed potatoes, beef lasagna and sautéed vegetables.

The chicken soup, 9 EPG was delicious, while the 1/2 roasted chicken, 36 EPG, was pleasantly marinated, crispy and well cooked. The mashed potatoes was buttery, fluffy and yummy. The grilled salmon, 80 EPG, was also well seasoned and cooked. The bread rolls, 6 EPG, were very tasty.

Even though there’s already so much to choose from in the IKEA Egypt store, there are notices around the store that announces even more products coming soon. It’s a great place to visit, especially if you like roaming around the market hall and choosing accessories for the home like me.

Hello! I'm Londoneya, a born and raised Londoner (you can also call me Mel!). I'm often found exploring with my camera, travelling, and discovering my heritage, Egypt. My blog is a reflection of all that and more. Learn more.

  1. The Ikea here used to be smaller and was located just around from where my husband has his office, but then when the Avenues was being built, it moved over there and is much bigger. I love going — mostly for candles and frames and washcloths/towels that I crochet borders for. :) Haven’t eaten in their restaurant in many, many years, but everyone always says it is so good. Enjoy! Best wishes, Tammy

  2. That looks exactly like IKEA in Dubai! I can spend hours and hours and hours at this place :)

Oh, love their food too! I think I’ve tried everything they have, haha.

    So what did you buy?
